Attitude is everything.
Smile and get to the point asap. People want to make up their mind quickly when someone is at their door and asking them to part with their money. Most of the time it isn't what you are selling (unless it is magazines) it is you selling you. If they feel an immediate "bond" with you (not easy) they will buy "you" and not necessarily what you are selling. Remember also that usually people really don't buy because you think it will help you (or some other reason) they buy because they find a "need" to buy. Satisfy that need and they will want want you have to sell. Buying can be an emotional thing; do they really want the little discount your "coupons" offer, probably not? Ask them something up front: do you and your family go out to eat at local restaurants? Great when you go next time just give them this coupon for a discount, it will almost cover your tip!
