    Most of the time animals with very large ears live in hot dry climates and their ears allow them to remain cool without sweating as much (elephants and rabbits are good examples). Other animals have ears that allow them to be moved independent of the head (think of a cat or fox) so they can listen while hunting with the minimum of movement.
