Water heater pilot light keeps going out
It seems that the pilot light on my hot water heater keeps going out overnight or so. Is there a specific reason this is happening? I do have a home warranty but I just want to make sure these guys are on the up&up with me if they tell me I need a new whatever I may need. I guess I'll just have to keep taking cool showers in the mornings.

If your water heater is manufacture after 2003 you have a fvir water heater and the flame arreator has to be kept clean. Try a water heater brush

If you have a flame detector it is a small silver-colored rod with a white insulator around it like a spark plug. You clean it with fine sandpaper because it conducts electricity through a flame. If you have a thermocouple it is a copper bulb with a copper capillary tube going to gas valve, or sometimes two wires. The thermocouple generates electricity to power a coil in the gas valve to keep the gas valve open, but the flame must be on the 3/8" of the tip only to work. They last for about 5 years then need replacing which is easy. They are available at any hardware store in a universal kit. You remove bracket from burner and install new thermocouple, then adjust it so only 3/8" of tip is in flame.

Cannot light Pilot Light on Water Heater [ 2 Answers ]

My water heater is located in my attic. After Katrina, I had to repair my damaged roof and it seems that the attic fan went out. Since then my water heater pilot light has repeatedly gone out. I can re-light it usually, but the lack of air up in the attic causes the light to go out. Presently,...

The disappearing water heater pilot light. [ 1 Answers ]

My water heater pilot light went out so I relit it with no problems, but it keeps going out. After about the 7th time I relit it, I decided to wait around to see how long it took to go out. I gave up after 10 minutes and walked away. When I checked again after about 10 more minutes it was out...

Water heater pilot light problems [ 31 Answers ]

Pilot went out, no problem relighting. BUT when I turn up the thermostat, the flame gets out of control and escapes from the two protective doors. It has started melting the plastic on the outside of the tank around the drain valve.
