    Gum Pigmentation
Hi! I am suffering from gum discolouration, my gums in the front of the mouth are bluish purple and since I have big gums and a big smile, its embarrassing smiling, so is there any way I can get my gums back to normal? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have your gums always been discoloured or is this something new to you?

No they have not been discolored always, the discoloration has occurred in the past 2 years. I also was a smoker earlier, but is there any possibility of getting the original color back?

It's quite common for people with darker skin to have gum tissues that are pink with darker areas. I can understand your concern as it seems the gums show when you smile. I have no answer for what to do to get the dark colour out of your gum tissue. Perhaps you should speak to your dentist about this? Please let me know what he/she suggests and what works.

I am an african american and was recently treated for this---its common if you have darker skin to have pigmented gums...

You you should contact a specialist who can help treat your dark gums... dentists / gum specialists / periodontists can help but most of them don't treat pigmented gums... so I looked extensively for someone that specializes in treating pigmented and dark gums... in the end I had my gums treated by Dr Farnoosh in beverly hills, Ca. This really helped me feel more comfortable smiling... he basically invented the procedure and was published extensively for it... I liked him he was very compassionate and it didn't hurt at all. He treats lots of celebrities in beverly hills...

You might want to look at his website at this link (below):

My gums, lips and tongue turned dark too over the years, then my lip turned red and blue black. I even have bluish black spots on my tongue that astonished the doctor the other day when he checked my throat. I didn't think it was an issue, I actually thought it was quite funny...
