When I was about 8 years old I had a very freaky thing happen to me; my family and I used to live in a old victorian style house that was pretty creepy at night. I used to use this huge stuff dog as a pillow, it was flattened out and everything from where I had always laid on it. Anyway, one night something jerked the dog out from under my head and it went tumbling across my bed length wise and landed on the floor. I was so scared that I just froze. As I was laying there frozen I felt something walking on my bed, it felt like my cat so I reached down to pet it for comfort but she was not their and it felt like something was still standing on my bed. At that point I jumped up and raced into my parents room who, of course, told me it was probably the cat. To this day, I know it wasn't my cat... something yanked that stuffed dog out from under my head!

I had an experience as a child. I was probably 8 and one night I was lying in my bed asleep when I was awoken by the sound of the wood flooring in my room creaking. Now we didn't have pets and there is a bookshelf full of books that I face when lying in bed. So I had my eyes closed listening to the flooring creak and then it stopped. I opened my eyes and at the end of my bed were two glowing red eyes. I was petrified.

After about 5 or 6 seconds I put my head under the covers and hoping it would go away. Eventually I fell asleep again. The next day I told my parents, who told me I was dreaming, but I knew better. I check the bookshelf to see if anything would cause two read glowing eyes, there was nothing and I never experienced it again.

Years later when I was 18 I was reading the paper one morning and an interesting article came up on "Monsters of Jacksonville, Fl". The spooky thing was as I was reading I came across one of the supposed things that lurk Jacksonville, which was a creature called "red eyes." I couldn't believe my eyes. Apparently there had been sightings all over Jacksonville since the 1800's. I was amazed.

On a side note, my mother later confessed to me that the house where we used to live (where I had my experience) she said she never quite felt comfortable there and that she always had an eerie feeling. I too shared her sentiment as there was something unnerving about the house.

Scarriest thing for me..... Probably when I used to live in a townhouse complex and I would see dark things move across the floor really quickly. Darn glad I moved outta there!

Well, it'll never translate into the real fear on the page...

Lived in an old house built around 1900s... grandparents home, I lived there with my mom. Nice home but it had a half finished basement with a crawl space in the other section that you could get to from the basement.

I had a lot of good memories in that house, and even playing in the basement, but I didn't like to be down there at night. I started having a dream about going into the crawl space which became a tunnel of sorts and soon itd become tense and as if something were after me.

Then one night I woke up after hearing a noise in the basement, which was right over my room. We had a bar over the outside door so there was no way anyone could be in there. I left my bedroom, went through the kitchen and stood by the back door that opened to the stairs down. Thought I heard a thump again. Reached for the doorknob and stopped.

I just felt like there was evil behind that door. I couldn't open it.

Now, how a crappy old door with not even a deadbolt locked could keep "evil" from coming into the kitchen, I don't know. I just know something chilled me that night and after that I never, ever liked going into the basement at night.

My wife made me agree, when we were looking for houses, that the other spouse would not get mad or argue if a great home was rejected for the "creepy feeling" factor. Shed experienced a similar sensation.

On her side, she woke one night, after sleeping alone in the house, naked in her bed, with her bedroom window wide open. It wasn't that way when she went to bed. She borrowed a gun for a month.

Ok, here's my freaky story. When I was about 13 me, my mom and my sister moved into the upper unit of a duplex. My mom used to fall asleep on the couch at night before getting up and going to bed. One morning she told my sister and I that if we ever find her dead on the couch in the morning that it was "the man" that got her and that she would be dead from a heart attack. Obviously freaked out we asked her to explain. She said that when she would fall asleep on the couch she would wake up suddenly just freezing. As she would fumble around for more blankets, at the other end of the living room standing outside one of the bedroom doors would be the shadow of a man standing there. As she would blink her eyes and lean in to see who it was he would lean forward and crouch down looking back at her. He would then start slow but start to run at her. Right when he would almost get to her she would scream and he would disappear. We laughed at her and joked about it for months but never thought anything more of it. Years later I moved out and was living with my fiancée. The day of the wedding had arrived and the day before my mother suggested that I spend the night at her house as to keep up the tradition of the groom not seeing the bride the day of the wedding. We went to the rehearsal dinner and all that good stuff and headed back to my moms house. My step sister was also staying there that night. Since my mother and father no longer shared a bedroom, she had her room, my dad had his and my step sister had hers, therefore I had to sleep on the couch. After I finally cleared my head of all the wedding thoughts I fell asleep. After several hours I awoke shivering uncontrollably. As I was reaching for more blankets and trying to snuggle in and warm myself, I noticed a figure standing outside my step sisters bedroom at the other end of the living room. As I laid there I just watched him, thinking it was my dad and that he had maybe heard my step sister calling for him. As I tried to focus my eyes on him I became curious to exactly what it was he was doing. All of a sudden he turned towards me and leaned forward looking directly back at me as if to show me that he saw me looking at him. I was exhausted and just thought OK that was weird dad, closed my eyes and went back to sleep. The next morning over breakfast I asked my dad what it was he was doing last night. He surprisingly said, what do you mean. I explained that I saw him standing in front of my step sisters door. He said he didn't get out of bed for anything. All of a sudden my mothers face turned white and she looked at me and said... "that was him!! You saw him!! I was so freaked out! Funny thing is I have since bought the house and haven't ever seen him again. I told my mother, maybe he followed you to your new house!! LOL

Well, once you're a parent it all seems like nothing.

Having a child throw up all liquids for three days or running a 103 temp all night is about as awful as any dumb mental fabrication.

Or when after my wife had her first child as a single mom. Three days after she was at home and started bleeding. Almost bled to death and all she could think of was while she was losing blood on the way to the hospital was "i can't die. i have a new baby"... how's that for a downer moment.

But she didn't die so happy ending. Cheers to all, ill break out the beer.

Oh crap. No beer in the fridge. Now that's scary.

Scariest thing - - - When I was 18 and off to college. Freshmen Orientation. There was a campfire/picnic in between the main administration building and the Priory (which housed the library). The Sophomores were giving us newbies the dos and dont's and then someone said, "beware of the snakes." Had already been on campus three days and no snake sightings. So my two roommates stood up and were yelling, "here snake, snake" and I looked behind and saw a pile of curled up rattlers in a culvert. I don't know how many, never stopped to count. Lol. There was a mass exodus from the campfire. I called my parents and told them in no uncertain terms that I was coming home. HA HA.. My parents said tough luck.

The college had been built on prime snake country and we would often find rattlers in the dorms, in the classroom, on the walk paths, anywhere. I hated that place.

My scariest? This past month; I've been having dreams of "the dead" screaming for me to help them, but I don't know how. So, they kill me. &Each time that happens, I'd wake up, feeling the pain, I would've felt, if the dreams were real.

On July 4th, I took a "mirror picture" and a girl appeared in it.

Since then I go to sleep with my lamp on, my closets shut. About 15 minutes pass, the closet is cracked open, and my lamp is turned off. I can be awake, while it happened. I witnessed it 4 times. So now, my older brother comes into my room to wait for me to sleep, then he unplugs the lamp on his way out.
