    Asbestos siding
We just learned our house has asbestos siding underneath the aluminum siding. It is a 2 story house with full daylight basement, though all areas are not covered with siding. I know this is expensive, but can you give me some range of costs to remove the asbestos please?

Our neighbor had the same stuff removed and it was around $30,000, but this was 5 years ago almost, my guess is closer to 40 for a whole house.

It doesn't have to be removed, it becomes dangerous if the tiles are falling apart, that's when asbestos dust gets in the air, if you leave it alone and (if possible) coat it with a sealer it should be fine.

Asbestos "remediation" is expensive. I f I were you I would leave it alone. If you don't disturb it... it's considered "encapsulated" and isn't considered much of a hazard. It's when it's disturbed (cut, separated, etc.) that the fibers floating in the air become a problem.

Asbestos? [ 3 Answers ]

I'm looking into replacing my wood siding on my house (Chicago)that was built in 1956. I was going to strip off the old and put some new siding up BUT on further inspection I noticed a drywall type insulation between the plywood and the siding. It's about a 1/2 in thick and it looks like drywall...
