I agree with the answers above. I also want to add that you don't necessarily need an agent to get you jobs as an actress. I have a cousin who travels all over the U.S. performing in dinner theaters for a living.
If you have a community theater around where you live, you could try out and get involved with that to see if acting is something that you want to do. Frankly, for most people who get involved in acting, it is something that they want to stay with, even if it is not a way to make a living. It is a great way to make new friends!
I have been in over 40 musical theater productions either on the stage or playing for them. One of the things that I do for a living, is I am a professional musician on voice and various instruments.
