In the past say 2weeks, my son has been acting as if he is seeing things, he won't go into our hallway, and if he does, the fear on his face is unreal. We are having a bit of a problem with him just now as well, we don't no if they are related, but he is nearly 3yrs old, he swears,spits,screams,hits,bites(you name it he does it). And well now he seems petrified of something in our house. We have tried taking him through the house and asking him what's wrong, he is very upset and his face is a picture when you ask him to show you what it is. I'm feeling really run down by his bad behavior, and now this odd behavior has started, we just don't know what to do:confused: :confused: :confused

Is this happening at night? Is it possible it's night terrors?

It is possibly somehting to do with his sleep. I suffered hideous night terrors as a child and acted in a very similar way. It could be nightmares that he doesn't understand. My son is four and yesterday he woke up extremely upset as he dreamt everyone hated him, it took a good couple of hours to calm him and help him realise it was a dream and not real, and that we love him! I will add my son also behaves in similar way to yours, has done since he was a tiny tot, with the biting and kicking and screaming.

This sounds like night terrors,but the other is a three year old having a bad day and blaming you for it.My three year old started this behavior at 34 months and I thought he was losing his mind.It has improved,but he still has his days.He throw tantrums when he doesn't want to leave a place where he is having fun ,transitining fom one place to another.

Is he alseep and awakening when this happens? Or do these episodes happen when he is fully awake?

Sorry its took so long to answer, we've been on holiday. My son is fully awake when this is happening, which makes it worse. Thank you for answering my question

Just wanted to mention when my son was younger ( like around 6 or so ) he used to come out of his bedroom and walk up to us with his eyes open and just scream and cry like he was terrified but the next day he would say he didn't remember doing that . Is there anyway that your child is sleep walking with his eyes open ? My son stopped doing that over time ( he is 16 now) .
I fyou are absolutely positve that it is when he is awake maybe you should talk to the pediatrician about it or call the pediatrician up and she or he can recommend a specialist . Do you know the history of the house? It is best to look at all options. But the first step is to see if any doctor can diagnose this. Just take it from there. Maybe your child saw something in a movie or TV that he remembers and doesn't really see anything but maybe he is afraid he will . Almost like fear of the dark. See if you can bring up questions away from the home like at a crowded mcdonalds or something . Maybe that way your child won't feel as afraid of talking about it .

So he is fully awake . My son used to do this and at 15 he occassionly still does. This always happened aftrer he was lying down, although he would look at us and talk to use and answer questions. We thought he was awake. But his Dr. said it was night terrors and he was still asleep. I hope you find some answere on here I know you are very worried. Blessing to your family

Are you absolutely positive that he is completely awake?
My nephew sleep walks, but you would swear that he is awake.

Since this is happening when he is awake. I would really talk to a professional about it, start with his doctor... make sure he is not around to hear this... also I would try to set up a video camera to catpure some of it... maybe record it if nothing else. Something is definitely scareing your child. Good Luck

It's a long shot, but he may be psychic. (seeing spirits) But I'd put my money on a combination of night terrors (if it is during sleep,) or he may need psychological assessment

I thought about that, but I have always heard that when children see spirits, that they are not afraid of them... but you could be right and he is the exception.:confused:

Why not talk to your pediatrician and see what they say. What I notice sometimes my son "hears things" when he has fluid in his ears. (just an idea).

You need to take your child to a sleep clinic,that will observe him while he sleeps for 1 night.One visit can rule out many things that your child may be trying to deal with.Sleep walking,sleep apnea,and night terrors,can have severe effects on a person's behavior.

ANy history of family members having Hallucinations? Has he taken any medications recently? Any trauma? Scary movies? DId the Dr do a complete physical with blood work? How is his communication with you? Does he interact when not frightened? Not a Dr here but could be any number of things. I know you want to get the bottom of this.

I would video tape his behavior and take him and the tape to a child psychiatrist. Maybe they can understand better if they can see what is going on. Just a thought.

Your son might be going through what is often known as "early-age puberty", considering his age of only three. I recommend that you take your son to a consultant immediately and also that the parents see a consultant to figure out if anything is wrong within the family, for in most cases these things occur through a child's dissatisfaction within certain behaviors , etc. of the family members.
