    CD Burner help
Hey, I need some help. I recently got a computer. By recently I mean I got it around sometime toward the end of October. Anyway my problem is that my cd burner has stopped working. Like it plays DVD's and plays audio music it just won't recognize a blank cd and allow me to burn. The most I've used the cd burner is about 5 times since I bought the comp... Any suggestions on what I can do? Or is it really messed up and I have to get a new burner or soemthing?

What happens when you try to burn? What burning software do you use?

Well I put in a cd, right to burn, and well it tells me that there is no cd and that I have to insert a blank disc. I've tried several different types of cd's so I know it's not cd's.

Well that really doesn't answer my questions. What does "right to burn" mean? You might want to try reloading your burner software.

Scott's question is justified here. When you bought it, you were able to 'play' CDs, but did you load the drivers and the 'Burning Software, i.e. (Nero, Easy CD Creator, Winoncd, etc. or the Windows version of the burning software that came with the computer if you had a previous CD burner) If it's the very first CD and/or DVD burner inserted onto this PC, then you really need to install the 'software and drivers'. So, Check and see if the burner came with CDs that have the installation software included and after installation, try again - and then let us know.

When a program asks you to insert a blank CD, it probably has already created the file to burn, however, you need to insert either a CD-R, or a CD+R to let the program finish it's job.

So, to summarize, when purchasing any peripheral, please read the instruction manuals and check for the CDs with the installation programs for that particular device.

    Good Luck.
