Sperm lifespan in condom
We are trying at home AI, but I was made to work a double shift so I missed his ejaculation. How long can sperm live in a condom if it is not exposed to mass quantities of air?

Um, AI at home usually doesn't work. Are you doing the turkey baster thing?

He said it was optimal within the first 20 minutes after the sperm are ejaculated, but he neglected to tell us how long they actually live, and I've been on this blasted machine for 2 hours, and some people say 5 min, and some people say up to 12 hours... I just need an answer and so far I have not gotten one... and all the useless websites say sperm life varies based on its conditions... which tells me NOTHING! Its frustrating me, this is the first month that I have pinpointed my ovulation, and I'm afraid we may have missed it... dead sperm get you no where

We've been trying for years, and if this doesn't work, then we will go to an AI office, and then invetro, but we really want to avoid that. We really don't want invetro! So we are just moving through the steps, we want to make sure we exhaust every avenue before invetro.

Ovulation isn't the only time you can get pregnant. You can even get pregnant during your period. Are you using an app to figure out your ovulation?

Nope, the pee stick tests and discharge monitoring. I have an abnormal cycle so its been tricky trying to figure it all out.

You really need to talk to the doctor again about how to do this. Getting info off the internet is not always useful (as you found out). Or go to the public library and ask a reference librarian for help to find factual information.

There is no one number. Has your partner's fertility level been checked?

Yes, he's average, the doc said he's right where he needs to be, but that the sperm may be having issues entering the uterus because its on such an angle

Your uterus only? Or how did the rest of us get pregnant?

The semen has to be fresh, no older than a half hour.

Actually ovulation IS the only time you can get pregnant. Women have an average of 24-36 hours per week for pregnancy to actually occur. It's a wonder we get pregnant at all.
WG, do we need to have a talk about fertility and conception? *wink wink*

Your doctor has advised no longer than 20 minutes. You need to follow your doctor's advice and not advice found on the internet.
Is your husband using lubricated or unlubricated condoms for this? Most lubricated condoms contain spermicide, so if he is using this kind, he is killing the sperm.
