Can someone prevent you from getting a K1 visa simply by sending an email to embassy?
My fiancé and I (she is from Thailand) are starting the K1 process soon. Her ex is, to say the least, bitter about her moving on it seems. He has already told her and others that he contacted the U.S. embassy in Bangkok claiming that she is a prostitute in an attempt to get them to deny her any chance at obtaining a visa to the U.S.

So, first off, will this effort on his part actually succeed? If so, what can we do to counter it? Second, what will the embassy do with this type of email/letter/call? She has told me that she has never taken part in this type of activity, and I do believe her.

Oh, also I promised my fiancée that I would talk to a lawyer about this, so if any actual lawyers could chime in as well, that would be much appreciated (and would possibly save me some money!)

You should find out exactly what is behind this... if she has engaged in prostitution or even worked as a bar girl, it's likely that her petition would be denied. Engaging in prostitution is one in the eligibility list.

If she has been married to this guy and the divorce is final, she is fine. If she was in a relationship, no wedlock, he has no right to claim anything. Thailand does not recognize domestic partnership.

The US consulate doesn't take any allegation without concrete evidence, so if she's never engaged in sex trade, nothing to worry about.

You may have her contact me directly at the forum on my blog at Lawanwadee

    I also speak Thai..

Thanks for your reply, I am quite certain that she has never engaged in prostitution or even worked as a bar girl, she does not speak fondly of bar girls for one, and second I have known her for a while and trust her. She was never married to this guy, in fact she has never been married at all, so it appears there is nothing to worry about here. Thanks again.
