I replaced the picture in the previous post. With yellow line is how the old p trap was attached to the drain pipe using a 90 elbow.
With red is how I want to connect the new 2" p trap...

Just to make sure I am on the same page with you:
1. cut at the base of 1 1/2". That will give me about 3/4" room to work with
2. clamp the remaining 3/4" of pipe to the left...
