Check all ground wires from fuel tank to body as well as from body to frame and engine block.

My guess is the timing belt is gone. You can check this by removing the distributer cap and watch the rotor while cranking over the engine to see if it turns. No rotor movement will verify the timing...

Sounds like your egr valve is stuck partially open. Remove it and check for a small piece of carbon holding the valve open.I had the same problem on my 94 sonoma.
