At 35 plus years old , unless it has been extreamly well taken care of and inspected regularly , it should be replaced, just my thoughts and opinion,

More info , what kind of furnace
-
-
The same 4 wires you removed from old tstat only
-
Much easier to remove motor and take it to your local motor supply house and they can match you up with a motor
-
More info on furnace and tstat
-
Yes the cap can cause the motor and/or the compressor to not start
-
Tape off all exposed wires that went to outside unit each wire seperatly and set the tstat to emergency heat
-
Probably what you didn`t do was connect 2 brown and brown with strip to the new capacitor. I`m wondering why you took off the ground wire, just connect it to any of the mounting bolts before...
-
If the coil is dirty the air can`t get through the coil and seems to not be blowing as hard, I`m saying this not knowing what kind of ac you have
-
Did u replace the capacitor with a new one to match the new motor?
-
Lol, sounds like its stuck in reverse,:)
-
-
Have you tried setting the tstat to fan/fan only , not on auto ? Does it work then? If not it probably time to replace blower motor
-
-
2.5 to 3 ton ac is the most you should need,, you going to end up with a humidity/mold/mildew problem,, and I agree with ma0641 you probably have a insulation problem
-
Its part of the circuit board
-
Has it been this way for 30 yr?
-
Call the installer back to do his job right,, you paid him I`m sure
-
The thermostat could be set to fan on and not set on auto
-
-
Get local contracters to give you guestimates
-
Sounds like its time,, time maybe for a new tstat
-
Sure there are other possibilitys, but not being there, it would be hard to say, would be impossible now that the fan/blower is not working
-
A thermostat needs/has to be able to get the ambient room temperature air passed by it or it will never get satisfied therefor the unit will run nonstop therefor causing the ac and fan/blower to run...
-
Did you turn off breaker?power to furnace before making the switch-out? If not you may have fried the transformer
-
Make a note or picture of where each thermostat wire is connected on the furnace,(colors), turn off breaker to furnace. Remove tstat wires from furnace. Turn furnace breaker back on. If it comes...
-
What I`m finding is the number you gave us is the model number of the gas valve, not the furnace. Could you give us more info, like furnace brand /model number, have you made sure the tstat is set to...
-
How do you know nothing wrong with the tstat?, just asking
-
OK,, I hear what you think,, but are you going to expect the unit to work/cool your home?
-
Much info needed for you to get help,, brand ,model number, is it electric, gas, oil??
Have you looked anything over and have any info that could help us help you
-
The last camper I worked on worked on a 12 volt power system. (its been several years), I had to get a special 12 volt tstat,, a house tstat works on 24 to 27 volts, and couldn`t be used in camper
-
Most of the time a fan center controls the speed of the fan motor. It will run faster in ac mode and slower in heat mode
Don`t no if this answers your question or not
-
Did it (furnace) work before you replaced the tstat? You may not have wires connected right. You say the fan is working so this tells me there is power. You might jumper the red and white wires ,this...

I agree with mygirlsdad77,, but not sure about Grady White, :) :)
-
Most installer and myself usually try our best to put the outside units (heatpump or whatever) as far from the bedroom as possible,be it the home owner or the neighbors
Some units do seem to make...
-
Didn`t understand,, did you replace the sequenser?
If not I would, it's the cheapest part you can start with
-
Good deal, I was wondering what the black wire was used for, its maybe grounded somewhere,, its good it didn`t fry your tstat
-
More info,, is there a question?
-
Go to the other end, at the boiler, what is the black wire connected to?
-
Does it give a code? Before locking out
-
All is well, so far, just no time to play. Working 2 jobs keeps me busy, little woman lost her job about 3 years to soon,, Obama has hit his mark at my house,, just have to double up,if it don`t kill...
-
Sounds like the furnace is doing its job. The tstat I`m sure has a name brand and model number to tell us what you are working on. 85 or even 80 is awfull warm for most any size house. Put it down to...
-
How are you doing mygirlsdad,, its good here. Don`t get on the site much any more
-
I`ve never known anyone to use a file on flame sensor,, I use steel wool,, most older furnaces that have pilot lights ,that I`ve worked on don`t have flame sensors
-
What whistles? The Tstat or the furnace?
-
If you have a multi tester you could unhook the lead wire that goes to the igniter and test at the start up time to see if there is power going to /or trying to start the igniter/glow-plug, if so,...
