401k to IRA rollover when not a US citizen/permanent resident
Hi everyone. Hopefully someone here can help me out. I'm a foreign citizen but lived in the US for over ten years (went to college on an F1 visa and worked on H1b visas.) I have a considerable amount of money invested in my former employer's 401k plan (with charles schwab) but now want to roll it over to an IRA account. When I called scottrade to process the trade I was told I need to be a US citizen/green card holder to do the roll over. Vanguard told me I need to be a US citizen. I have a valid US social security number and my name on a lease in the US because I share an apartment there when I visit the US every year (and yes I pay rent.) does anyone know which firms would be willing to do the IRA rollover despite my non-resident status? I read a post on here that mentions that charles schwab does, but I would rather use someone else if I have a choice. Any insights are welcome. Thank you.
