Man created religion to try to make sense of things he doesn't understand in his world.

Man created religion because in Roman times the people in charge had to keep the great unwashed quite so they invented "The next life" so the poor had something to look forward too as their lives were quite awful. This continued through the Middle Ages when the church became very powerful and very opinionated and created things like purgatory and praying to idols (Thou salt not worship any other God before me.) Then came the protestants who watered down some of the rubbish but continued with the fairy stories, just before this Mohammed came onto the scene and we all know what trouble that has caused over the centries. Religious people tell me they have a book Which proves the excistance of God. I have a book about the "tooth fairy" but it does not prove its existence.

What a pecularily warped and narrow view of history you have. Man developed religion long before the Romans who were after all only an echo of the Greeks. Religion developed quite independently in a number of places but as Paul said to the Greeks things have reached the stage where God won't permit this ignorance any longer. God is found by those who ernestly seek him. Just so you know God isn't a fairy at the bottom of the garden nor is the Bible a fairy story

According to the Bible, God implemented Judaism. This according to the Bible is the ONLY religion that God has approved and in fact given man to follow. However, once His Son Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law, God no longer wants man under the Law or Judaism.
Christianity is NOT a religion but a relationship with God the Father through his Son. Therefore, this side of the cross there is no religion that God puts his approval on.
Any and ALL other religions are man made.

And why is god assumed to have a human form - is this so that it helps us to relate to him more easily. Otherwise I don't understand why if god created the universe be would happen to be human, rather than any of the other potentially millions of lifeforms which exist across the universe.
