Healing in the Atonement
Healing in the Communion service
1 Cor 11:23-30
23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
(KJV)
The Apostle Paul tells us that the Lord revealed to him what was done at the Last Supper, just before Jesus was arrested and crucified.
He speaks of the bread and the cup.
Every Christian group fully understands the cup. It shows the blood of Jesus that cleanses from sin. We appropriate that, and because of our faith in what Jesus did, we are justified in the sight of God.
But how many Christians fail to understand the bread?
The body of Jesus was broken in Pilate’s hall by the unmerciful beating that He endured. Why was that necessary? Jesus was crucified to save us from our sins. Was that not enough?
In God’s sight, it was not enough. God not only cares for our eternal needs, but also for our needs here on planet Earth. Jesus was beaten for our healing.
Notice verse 29 closely. Paul tells us that we eat and drink damnation if we do not DISCERN the Lord’s BODY. We understand the blood, but do we understand the body?
If we fail to understand the BODY, then we will not receive the health and healing that were provided by Jesus as He was on His way to the cross.
Isa 53:5
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
(KJV)
1 Pet 2:24
24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
(KJV)
