I was recently talking to a friend about my boyfriend. We weren't exactly having issues, but I needed advice about something. In thinking out what was going on, I let slip that my boyfriend had a girlfriend that cheated on him. It's not like I go around telling everyone this, but I feel awful because I feel like I betrayed his trust. What should I do?

Did he tell you not to tell anyone? But normally we have a good friend that we need to discuss relationships with. And the fact his old girlfriend cheated is not really state secrets I am sure many people know.

Make sure you don't do it again in the future first. Then go to him and explain that you just had a momentary slip when you were talking to your friend and you won't do it again. Make sure he understands that you respect him and his past and you respect his privacy. Throw in an "I'm Sorry" and then see what happens. Just make sure you do it very soon. Any delay will make it seem like you were trying to hide it. Remember, when dealing with relationships, honesty can defuse even the worst of fights before they begin.

If you confided with a trustworthy close friend then no harm, no foul. Its not betrayal to seek the counsel of another whom you trust, and its not like posting his secrets on the Internet, or blabbing to anyone that will listen.
