    Should I ask him back?
My best friend and boyfriend of 2 years dumped me very suddenly. We are both 20. Every now and then he would use phrases like, "When we get married...", "our children..."... etc. So I really had no idea that he didn't want me anymore.

The reason he gave for the break up was that he didn't see himself marrying me and might regret if he did. When I asked him specifically, he said that it's possible that we both grow up and learn to accept each other, but right now he doesn't see himself marrying me. And I think he broke up with me at the spur of the moment. After he mentioned breaking up, I asked how long he'd been thinking about it and he replied, "just."

I know he still loves me because he's truly upset and has been crying for the past 2 days, like I have. And I also know that he is stubborn and will never change his mind.

Although there is no hope that we'll ever be together again, I can't find closure. When my dog barks, I look out the window to see if it's him at the door. But of course it never is.

Should I try to get him back?

"I don't understand why he left."

And you probably never will. In some cases we don't even know ourselves why things don't work out. If he is as upset as you are it might be worth trying to talk to him. He might have heard something about you that isn't true. You really need to meet even if it is for the last time just to get some closure.

For whatever reason he has changed his mind and wants to go another route. Probably nothing to do with you personally but 20 is just the age to look around and want to see what this big old world is all about. You may never have closure but accept that his feelings have changed and leave him alone, and focus on what it is YOU want from life, besides him. You are free to explore what makes you happy so do so. It takes time, but you will move on.
