I treat people really well and have generally been treated like garbage in return. I plan to join the work force and I wanted to know if you guys think being nice is dangerous. How should I behave to maximize my chances of success? My biggest concern is preventing me from blowing up- because when that happens things get quite ugly. Thanks for your help.

You are to be professional, there is a difference, it is nice, but also not allowing yourself to be taken advantage of, saying no to co workers and the such is still being nice, just say no nicely

Be nice to the ones that appreciate it, ignore the ones that don't. Stay cool, calm, and collected at all times, and in control of yourself, even when the idiots are not!

It never matters what others do, only what you do, and in the work force, those that lose that control will pay the consequences of losing their job, and no idiot is worth losing your job for.

THINK before you act, because would have, should have could have, is to late, and don't pay the rent, or a cell phone bill!! Let me tell you being fired for losing control looks really lousy on a resume, or looks bad when they ask, "Why did you leave your last job?"!

"I got mad because some one was mean to me" won't cut it.

Is there a specific reason why you are always so nice. Fear of being disliked? Only you can answer that. Have some self-confidence. Be nice to you. Be courteous towards others, especially those you don't know personally. Like show a smile for example. But going out of your way to be overly nice and letting people step all over you is not okay. They are overstepping your bounderies and they know they can because you are so nice.

When you blow up it sounds like you hold a lot of your anger in. Before blowing your cool take a deep breath or count to ten and reassess why you are getting so angry. Meaning you will know when you will blow your cool and when you need that time out. When you are in a job you can't be verbally aggressive and start blowing up at people because they mad you angry. It will build you a very bad report.

Try some relaxation exercises and visualization or yoga. It will help to keep you relaxed.
