    Commitment/Promise Ring
Recently, my long distance boyfriend and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary. Now, the concern about our relationship is not in question. We are perfectly committed to each other. On our 1 year anniversary, he gave me a promise ring. It wasn't until recently that I actually started to take the ring for its true meaning. (Meaning, the promise of a future engagement.) He has obviously shown that he has a commitment to me for the future. I would like to do the same for him. I want to give him something besides my word that I am committed to only him. Something that has meaning. He is not a "ring guy". Definitely not something he would wear. Basically, I am looking for ideas of things to give him to show him my commitment, i.e. my "promise ring" for him.

Does he like any jewelry at all?

What's he into? What does he like?

There are so many options. It doesn't even have to be jewelry, but without knowing more about him, his likes and dislikes, I would just be throwing things out there.

So tell us a bit about him. Then we'll go from there. :)

Well, he does not like jewelry... at all. No watches, no necklaces, no bracelets... nothing. He likes video games. He loves tennis and baseball (actually plays tennis). He is really into trance music (similar to techno). He's actually started writing his own songs, but he mainly just makes mixes for an online radio station.

Aside from his likes, I think the perfect way to describe him is basic. Nothing too fancy. He's a jeans and tshirt kind of guy. He seems to like things with meaning. He is always thinking of creative things to give me or say to me and that always means a lot. I don't know if this was any help, but I am completely lost in this dilemma. Thanks for your help!

Does he collect anything? That may help.

Jewelry is usually the way people express their love for each other, but it's not the only way.

Does he play and instruement? You said he's really into music, writes his own songs. How about a really nice leather bound song writing notebook. You can have his name burned into the leather and maybe write a little something on it to show him how much you love him.

I do think it should be something personal, something unique, just like the ring he gave you.

Bottom line, if it comes from your heart, I'm sure he'll love it, because he loves you.

I guess the big advantage of jewelry is that you can wear it all the time, wherever you are. I can't think of anything else with that property. Of course, it's also got to be something that lasts. Maybe something that he can use every day, take with him when he travels? For some reason the idea of a razor comes to mind (assuming he isn't bearded -- might be taken as a hint!), but it certainly doesn't sound as romantic as a ring.

In the end, it really does have to be something personal to you both. You'll know it when you see it!

A tattoo is something you can have with you at all times, but that's very personal and something that is totally up to him, seeing as it's his body and it's permanent.

Also, I hate it when people tattoo their lovers name on their body. It's a really bad idea.
