Hello, and thank you in advance to anyone taking the time to help me with this question...

Neighbors started a construction project next door to our rental home. They went in and tore down the thick landscaping that covered a wire fence that acted as a privacy wall between our two properties. Without the landscaping our bedroom and backyard are completely completely exposed to the construction going on. Considering it did not look like this when we determined to move in, is the landlord &/or property manager responsible for putting up some sort of wall or barrier for us. We talked to the neighbors and they have no intention of putting up a privacy wall. Is it within our rights as tenants to restore the fence with some sort of material (bamboo, boards, etc. ) so that we can have the privacy back that we pay top dollar for.

First, was the landscaping on their side of the fence or yours?

If it was on their side, then you have no recourse. If it was on your side, its up to your landlord to take action for the damage to his property.

If he can't or won't do anything you can ask if he would mind you paying for such a barrier. I doubt if he will object since it improves his property. But you will be making a material change to the property that you will have to leave when you move.

I will agree is all of this was on their side of the fense, then it was there to do with it as they please.
And if it is on your side, then they tresspass and you should have reported them tresspassing.

I don't believe the landlord has any obligation to do so, if this is very high scale rentals, he may because that is what is needed to keep top paying clients But if he will not, you can do it at your expense with landlords permission, but if it is a fense you can not take it when you leave.
