Inherited property lying dormant -joint owned
A woman owns a house in Kansas, and lives in it until her death in 2002. She wills the house equally to her daughter, who lives within 15 miles of the premises, and her son, who lives in a neighboring state. Responsibility was assumed by, and given to, the daughter because of her proximity to the property, but the house has been left dormant for six years, and is in disrepair. The property would likely be considered uninhabitable by humans, perhaps condemnable. What recourse does the son have?
    Thanks for any input.

He can hire people to fix it up, why have they not sold it? Whose money was the sister to use to keep it up, was there money in an esate or money in a trust? Has her brother been sending her money to help with the upkeep??

Son was willing to contribute to upkeep, but is out of the loop because he is 600 miles away, while she is 15 miles away. Left her to determine what she wanted to do with the property, he would go along. She says she intended to rent, but claims to have been "too busy" to do anything about it yet. Has not even removed mother's property. Son removed few items that he wanted shortly after mother's death. Daughter has other properties that she owned with now deceased husband also dormant. Suspect laziness, or assuming too much responsibility with too little ability to follow through. Also, suspect that if he went to take care of it, there would be roadblocks.

    Hello m:

They own it equally. If there are roadblocks, he should remove them.

Sell it, obviously he is too far away, and she will not. Or turn it over to a rental management company to rent out.
