Breaking Rental Lease due to Medical Reason
I recently found out that I am pregnant. We live in a place with stairs. My doctor has told me that it is not in my best interest to stay in this place. I have had back problems before the pregnancy and it is only going to get worse. With my doctors medical release do I have the ability to break my lease agreement in the state of Washington?

From what I read of the law, no, not unless you are going into a nursing home, which you obviously are not doing.

Your best bet is to negotiate with the landlord, attempt to move to another unit, buy the lease out, reason with him.

Has your physician said specifically that you cannot climb stairs? If so, take that note to the landlord when you talk to him.

Not in best interest and saying you can not claim any stair. That means you are not going to climb a stair at church, at any personal location either.

You can try, normally no it is not allowed.
