    Correct Grammar
    Which is correct assuming the noun relates to a number of people? The staff was friendly or the staff were friendly.

    The staff was friendly.

    Staff is singular. Although "staff" represents a group of people, it' only one group. You would also say the group was friendly. You would say the people (because people is plural) were friendly.
