Sounds like you need better communication with him and possibly learn how to compromise with each other.

In relationship, there is no magic answer and no one knows what is going to happen to you in this relastioship.

Why did you break up, has that issue be resolved, if you have been off and on, why, what is on about it, what is causing it to be off.

Are you both talking, have you considered taking couples counseling to try and work out a relastionship. Has one of you started to move on?
