What is 'GA LMP' on scan?
Got my scan today, think Im only going on 8 weeks however my scan dated me 10 weeks and 2 days. At the bottom of the scan picture it says GA LMP... can anyone please explain this to me. Thank you xx

I'm not 100% sure, and hopefully our labor delivery nurse will come along and tell me if I'm guessing right. ;)

I believe it means Gestational age and last menstrual period.

I'm pretty certain about the LMP part, but the GA part I'm guessing.

Please check back often. We have to pregnancy experts on this site, I'm sure they'll know for certain what it means. :)

    I'm not really sure.

I did find this site, it may explain things a bit better.

Thank you that makes a lot of sense... however its all still very confusing but it does mean that I was right in my calculations that my wee baby is actually only about 8 weeks old and not ten, thank you Altenweg xxx

Just to add to what Alty explained:

The gestational age, taken from the last menstrual period, is used because in most cases it is not known exactly when conception occurred. This is where the due date comes from, at least to start, and why you have several weeks considered normal to give birth within.

Fertilisational age is from conception... which it sounds like you are more sure of. Ultrasounds will sometimes alter a due date once measurements of baby can be taken to get a better idea of how far along the pregnancy most likely is based on baby's development.

Thankky you DoulaLC so then I'm correct in assuming that my babyis around 8 weeks as this would make more sense to me... and thatGA LMP on my scan is dating the baby from my last period. Thanks

Hi everyone, I wonder if you can help me? My lmp date is 10/5/09 which would make my due date 14/2/10. I had a scan at 9 weeks and 4 days which changed my due date to 13/2/09 then at my 12 scan I was measuring 3 days ahead so changed my due date to 11/2/09. I am certain of the date I conceived...
