Is it implantation bleeding or period? + pregnancy question
Sorry if I'll make some english mistakes, it's not my first language.

I've read a lot about implantation bleeding, I know it occurs about a week before a period, or about 9 days after the implantation.

Ok, so now I'm in this weird situation, me and my girlfriend didn't use condoms the first month we started having sex (we used the pull-out method, I know it's not really effective), but the fear of waiting for the periods to come is too high. When her period finally came, we decided to always use condoms from that point on, we've been using them for about 2 months now. I missed the feeling of doing it without a condom, because with a condom, it feels like having a shower with a raincoat on. So we did it (without the condom).

My girlfriend's periods always comes regularly, every 28 days. Her period was meant to come today, she called me in the morning and told me that her period hasn't started, and all she saw in the morning was a few dots of blood. And yesterday morning, when she woke up and went downstairs to get breakfast, she got sick (didn't throw up)and felt weak so she went to lay down in bed, after that she felt better. But that might be from the sugar illness she used to have when she was younger (don't know what the illness is called) because she said that when she had that illness, it used to be the same every morning.

When I read about the implantation bleeding, I've found out that it's only few dots of blood, just like it happened to my girlfriend. And that it happens about a week before periods, or about 9 (6-12) days after the implantation. So now I'm in this complicated situation, because we had sex without the condom, exactly 9 days ago, and she had the few dots of blood. I know it continues about 3 days, so I'll see what's it going to be tomorrow and the next day.

The question is, do you think that she's pregnant? Or is it just because of hormones that it happened and her period will come, because we're still quite young. Please share your thoughts and opinions, it would be highly appreciated.

    Thank you.

It sounds as though you may have implantation and ovulation mixed up slightly. Implantation usually occurs about 6-12 days after ovulation.

Ovulation is when an egg is released and, if it becomes fertilized, it will travel to the uterus to be implanted (about 6-12 days later... the earlier the better).

Most women will never notice spotting or bleeding associated with implantation. When you had sex the last time, where in her cycle was she? Just before a period, just after a period, etc,

Her period may just be getting ready to start, they can sometimes start slowly... her period may be off a bit, which is not unusual to be off a few days now and then... it could be off quite a bit, or even skipped, which may also happen at times... or she could be pregnant.

Have her wait several more days and see what happens. If still no period as she would expect, she should try a pregnancy test, following the directions exactly.

If she is pregnant, the two of you will have some big decisions to make. If she isn't pregnant, consider other forms of birth control if you are not going to use a condom. Of course it would be even better if you used a condom along with another form of birth control to decrease the chance of pregnancy even more.

Please do not put your pleasure ahead of how a possible pregnancy would change your lives... her's in particular. It simply is not worth the risk of an unwanted pregnancy. Show her how much you love her, and care about her future, and use a condom every single time.

"Most women will never notice spotting or bleeding associated with implantation. When you had sex the last time, where in her cycle was she? Just before a period, just after a period, etc,?"

It was 19th day after her last period, 9 days before her actual period should occur.

And we will always use condoms.

I talked to her today a few times, she is feeling well, no sickness or anything, she described the blood dots as "pink" and there were only a few of them, and as the day went she saw them again, but more this time.

I'm still hoping her period will come tomorrow, it's going to be the 29th day after her last period, and her periods are on the 28th day for the past 4 months that I've been following them.

Thank you for your answer, is there anything else? Please share.

Since it was just over a week before her next period was due, it is unlikely she would become pregnant. It is possible, if she happened to ovulate late. There is also the possibility of becoming pregnant from one of the times even when you did use condoms. No birth control is 100% effective.

Again, she should wait several more days and see what happens and whether she will need to try a pregnancy test.

What about the sickness 1 day ago? Could that be a symptom?

I'll post tomorrow letting you know how it goes.

    Thank you for your time.

I wouldn't read too much into her feeling sick. Pregnancy symptoms and PMS are very similar. She could be feeling a bit ill because her period is ready to start.

Don't keep looking for symptoms, it will only drive you crazy and going by symptoms alone isn't reliable. Wait a few more days, as Doula said, and if she doesn't get her period, try a home pregnancy test. Make sure to use first morning urine when she tests as it's more accurate.

If the test is negative, wait and see what happens next month. If she skips another period, then re-test (it can sometimes take a few months for the pregnancy test to register a positive result).

I also want to add that many women can be late for a period, or skip a period all together. Stress, medication, illness, weight loss, weight gain, and many other things, can cause a period to be late or missed altogether.

I know you've said that from now on you'll always use condoms. Well, condoms are definitely better then the pull out method, but realize that no form of birth control is 100%. There are women on this site that got pregnant using 3 different forums of birth control correctly.

So, any time you have sex, even if you protect yourself, there's a chance of pregnancy. If you're not ready to have a baby, maybe work on other aspects of your relationship and wait to have sex until a surprise pregnancy is no longer devastating.

Well for the past few months, her periods always used to come every 28 days, that's why I got concerned, and her period never started with few dots of blood before it...

Today's morning, there was no blood... But as the day went, she got her period. : ) Turns out I was a bit over reacting and letting the symptoms drive me crazy.

Thank you for your answers, really appreciated them.

The color of Implantation bleeding can vary form bright red to brown implantation bleeding. Bright red implantation bleeding means that there is an active area of bleeding within the womb and blood is flowing from the site of implantation to the vagina very quickly. Brown implantation bleeding is the color of old blood. When you get brown implantation bleeding it normally means that when the fertilized egg buried it way into the womb, a little blood was released.
