    Early ultra sound?
    What is this ? How early can you have one done in pregnancy? And what will they do?

    I had an ultrasound when I was six weeks pregnant. The baby is not big enough to detect on the kind they rub across your tummy, so I had to have a vaginal ultrasound. All they did was stick the camera up there and moved it around in different positions so they could see what was going on in there.

    What it does is emits a very high pitched sound, too high for you to be able to hear. They image any sound that is reflected back. They have to put some gel on the emitter so that your skin does not reflect it.

    It's basically the same as an echo in a cave, but they're targeting it and using some clever manipulation to generate an image. It gives you an image of your baby! :)

    For the normal ultrasound they will put some gel on your belly and move the emitter around (it looks something like a barcode scanner!). Then you will see your baby as a movie on the monitor. They usually are able to print out pictures for you to take home, too.
