vinyl pool - proper water level at closing?
I have a 24,000 gallon in ground vinyl pool - Baltimore MD - usually the water level is about 1' below skimmers, but I drained more this year - almost 2-2.5 ft below the skimmers.

Is this a problem - should I partially refill it? Besides blowing out the lines, what else would you recommend?

    Thank you

I would refill it to 6" below the skimmer via a garden hose rather than the pump and lines which you probably already blew out. Disconnect the lines to and from the pump and add a cup of antifreeze to the pump. You want to weight of the water to hold the pool in the ground when the ground freezes which can actually lift a pool like a floating cork.

Many thanks - in the meantime I checked Tamminem's book on pool maintenance and he recommended 18" below skimmer line, but NOT to drain pool. I'll add some more water since I'm about 22" below the line now.

    Thanks again

That would add a few tons of ballist to the poll and hold it in the ground during winter freezes.
