    repainting inground pool
We bought our house with an inground pool that is approxiamently 25-30 yrs old. It is an old sylvan plaster pool. The couple that lived here before us told us that they repainted the pool every year with Sears exterior latex paint. Has anyone ever done this or heard of anything like this? Is it safe? I know that you are suppose to use an acrylic based paint, so does that mean that we could use an acrylic exterior paint? I know that there is specific pool paint but this pool is huge 52 ft X 36 ft. and that paint can be expensive. Any info would be most helpful, thank you

You would be foolish to use anything but paint made specifically for a masonary pool. Since the previous owners painted every year, and didn't think that odd, you not have a build up that must be removed. Good new paint over latex will continue to fail until the last spec falls off. If you though the paint was expensive wait until you get 3 estimates for sand blasting.
