Why is sewage backing up in my sump ?
We just discovered sewage waste backing up into our storm sump. We are on city sewer and lived in the house for 8 years and never have experienced this problem before. Currently there is 12 or more inches of snow on the ground, making any access from the street to our house difficult. Does this sound like a problem from our house to the city sewer system, or a problem with our city sewer main ? We just called a sewer expert and are waiting for help.

Where does the storm sump discharge to. Is it by any chance emptying into your sewer drain?

Sewage backing up into basement [ 1 Answers ]

If sewage is backing up in basement and saturating entire carpet/pad shouldn't it be completely replaced after plumbing problem is fixed? Doesn't carpet harbor spores and bacteria? Isn't it a health hazard? How do you clean up after something like this? What would a plumber suggest? Thanks, Tom
