What to do with a leaking faucet?
I have a cold water faucet that won't shut off. Do I need to get a repair kit for the faucet or change the faucet handles? Also, how hard are the stems to change? Do I need tio hire a plumber or attempt this myself?

Need some more info, do you know the brand and the model number of your faucet, most faucets can be repaired by replacing the seals or the cartridges, if you answer my question some one will help you, Thanks.

I have no idea what the brand or model # is. My mobile home is 35 years old, but I can't get the faucet handles off. A plumber is coming on Monday to check it out. Thanks for your input.

Dewdrinker...
You could still attempt this yourself...
You will need to purchase a HANDLE PULLER ($10.00 at home depot... see picture) and then shut off the water supply to the faucet, remove the handles using the puller and then remove the cold water stem by loosening the large nut under the handle...
Then remove the stem assembly and take it to home depot to see if you can find a washer replacement.
Reassemble unit with new washer in place and see how it goes. If this failed you could try to replace the SEATS to the faucet OR it may be time to replace the entire faucet... it is 35 years old... ;)
If that is the case, go to Home depot and purchase a faucet you like... if plumber fixes old faucet at least you can return the new faucet to home depot no problem! If plumber cannot fix the faucet then at least you won't have to pay him to go shopping for a faucet for you... or you won't have to settle for some type of faucet the plumber has on the truck...
Just my thoughts on this...

Thanks for the answer. I may try and do it myself since I've already bought a new faucet.
