My washing machine hookup in the my kitchen. There is water leaking up through the floor in my livingroom now when the washing machine drains. What could be causing this?

Could be a cracked drain hose or loose connection. What does it drain to, is that clear?

The water is actually coming up through the floor in the living room behind the kitchen. I checked the connection, and it appeared to be okay. I made sure the drain hose was down all the way in the standpipe, but there is no water leaking around the washing machine.

Run a full load and watch the stand pipe when the washer does its drain. A stand pipe must be 36" tall and also completely clear as it draiuns into at least a 2" drain pipe. Did this just start or is this a new machine?

It is a used washing machine and it just started leaking. My father owns the condo, and he never had a problem with his machine. My tenant washed several loads of clothes and the next day the floor was completely soaked with water. She had to use a carpet cleaner to suck up all the water. So it took several hours for the water to actually leak up through the floor. I went over and stayed a couple of hours while she washed a load of clothes, but nothing ever happened while I was there.

Leaks rarely fix themselves so this will need close watching. My guess is a partialling blocked drain pipe under that stand pipe. However, if it was blocked enough to allow an over flow it should be happening with every load if the tenant is using the fullest load cycle.

Drain line is blocked - you need to snake the line, and don't forget the fact the vent line my need snaking as well.

Not block like solid blocked but at least restricted. We are saying the line must be at least 2" in diameter by code to handle a regular washer. If there is any build up inside the pipes it reduces the flow to more like a 1.5" or 1" pipe and the machine just pumps to fast for that sized pipe.
