    Undoing faucet locknut
    How can I undo a rusty kitchen faucet locknut? I can't get anything up there. I got a basin wrench but it is not big enough around and the locknut is too flat. What is the secret? Should I cut the water tubes off and use a crescent? Thank you!

    First soak the nuts with WD-40 wait a few minutes and try to loose the nuts, good luck, John

    Normaly the bsin wrenches will work good, see the image below, good Luck.

    You could cut the tubes if you are sure your stops are totally closed. The basin wrench is all you should need but they can be troublesome if you don't have a clear shot. WD40 is a good product and does many things well. Liquid wrench is a bit better to loosen a rusty nut. It will save you the time and truble of totally replacing the two tubes.

    Suggest get a set of tub faucet wrenches. Come in different sizes , one will fit in side another making a socket 8 to 10 long. Here a pic of one. Other post show a pic of the set.

    All above are good ideas...

    If they don't work (and they should) then you can run over to home depot or even a local plumbing supply house and purchase a basin nut cracker tool... see picture below.

    Using a ratchet tool with extension this threads onto 1/2" thread (riser nut is removed) and with force from ratchet SNAPS the nut in half!

    This should only be a last resort and you should be sure to use safety goggles when using any of these suggestions!

    This tool costs $40.00 or so.
