    Tub drain leaking
Just installed new fiberglass bathtub and surround. Tub drain seems to be leaking where drain comes together at bottom of tub. Putty was used on drain insert. Tub came with rubber gasket on bottom of cutout for drain. Any help much appreciated.

Hi Clarke... do you have access to the drain? And tell me... the tub waste and overflow assembly came with the rubber washer.. yes? Tub waste and overflow should have included the parts in the pic. Below. Get back to me.

I Do Have Access To The Drain, And Yes Tub Kit Came With Everything In The Pic. Putty Was Used Under Drain Insert (the Kind You Screw Into The Drain). I Have Seen Where They Say To Apply Pipe Dope To The Male Threads Before Screwing In, Or Caulking Under The Gasket Where It Meets The Tub?

SHould not be necessary... but it does not hurt to pipe dope the threads I guess.

Are you sure you tightened enough... what tool did you use? And it is leaking between the tub and the rubber? Get back to me.

Yes, It Looks Like It's Leaking Between The Tub And Gasket. I Used A Pair Of Needle Nose To Tighten The Drain Insert, And I Did Tighten Enough.

OK... I suggest that you remove the threaded drain... reputty it, pipe dope threads and do it again.. you can overtighten these.

There should be a rubber washer and a fiber washer under that.. Did you use the fiber washer?

The rubber washer is in between the bottom of the tub cutout and drain. Could it be leaking there?

I am sure you installed correctly, but a pic. Is worth a thousand words... so...

Also, add a little pipe dope around the threads of "tub basket "... Do not overtighten... that should do it. I suspect you may have overtightened the tub basket.. so redo as I stated earlier... just do not overtighten. Check in increments. Then when you think you got it... fill tub and then drain... hope that does it.
