    Toilet drip sound
Hi - there is the sound of dripping water in one of the toilets in my house. It's an older home but the toilet was installed not that long ago. I've done everything I know to do - replaced the fill and flush valve assemblies, tightened all the screws, etc. I've felt all around and there is no water leaking anywhere. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

    Thanks,
    Barb

    Hi Barb

Did you check the over flow tube in the tank? Water should be about 1'' below top of tube.

You may also be getting leakage from the flapper. Shut the water feed out under toilet tank and check the height of water in tank. After about an hour check again. If the water level is lower then you probably have a leaking flapper and it has to be replaced. There should be about a 1/4'' slack in chain that is hooked to flapper.

    Hi Barb

I would use some FOOD COLORING and drip say 20 drops of dark food coloring into the toilet TANK and then wait for awhile to see if colored water shows up in the toilet BOWL. If colored water does show up in the toilet bowl then the flapper is not sealing, the flush valve was not tightened enough or there is a crack in the toilet tank at the hole for the flush valve. The nice thing about the dye is that if there is a small crack it will show the crack once the colored water clears from the tank and refills with clear water (will see dye colored line inside tank).

    Good luck!
