    Toilet back up
My house has a basement and 2 stories, the basement toilet backs up about every 8-10 months and I get a gurgling noise when my sink or shower drains on the first floor I'm sure this isn't normal but I can't figure out why this problem keeps happening. Please help.

The gurgling noise indicates you probably have a vent stack that is blocked. Don't know where you are but the weather in Illinois would keep me off the roof. Do you have any clean outs in the basement and can you see the vent stack?

Toilet clogs are caused by 2 ply paper or not enough fall on the pipes under or the toilet is simply not adjusted to maximum flush ability.

I have also found some toilet clogs from the wax ring being compressed improperly and squishing into the drain area. If you ever meet my brother-in-law you find that not all clogs are toilet paper. He is able to clog our toilet frequently and it wasn't paper if you get my drift.

My toilet overflowed the other day and did much damage to a wood floor. The bath tub and shower pan were both dry. I would have thought that the overflow would have run into the tub or shower pan. Why wouldn't that have occurred. The shower, tub and toilet all drain into a single pipe and then...
