I need to replace a single - handle control valve. I tore off the tile just enough to get to the valve and need to what to do now. I THINK I know the right procedure but I would feel a lot more comfortable if I have it confirmed by an expert / knowledgeable person. Specifically, the right way to sweat on the joints and any tips or tricks for common problems that might plague me. Please help! THANK YOU profusely

That's really tough, if you have never soldered before and don't have access from the back.

Can you take a pic and post using "Go advanced/manage attachments". It might help us.

You may need to use a repair coupling and a heat shield to do the repairs. Repair couplings don't have the ridge or dot onthem so that the copper tube will slide completely into the coupling. You'll also need a close quarters tubing cutter and some teflon tape.

You'll need to practice soldering if you have never done it.

Teflon tape and threaded pipe can be cantankerous too.

Let's see what you have to work with. The existing and the new valve.

What is your level of soldering experience?

Have you ever dealt with pipe threads?

lunchtime, are you sure that the old mixer can not be fixed, most can and you can frequently update with new handle and escutcheon.
