    Studor vent failing ?
We read the thing about the washer situation, we had a stackable not being used and the box is open in the house. I don't want to pour motor oil down it so the new owner's won't have to deal with pumping. Is there another solution. We have taped it shut. Also, if it is the studor vent which was installed in 2000, I recall the plumber saying something about changing a filter on an annual basis , which has never been done. There is a cone top on it and we can't seem to loosen it. Either way can you respond to both scenerios as to be cause of gasses.

    Hi RS...

Install a simple 1.5" or 2" wing nut expandable plug (see image) at the washer stand pipe of the box... most professional solution.

In terms of the studor vent... there is no annual filter change needed. When studor vents fail they get removed and replaced. If you think your studor vent has failed then unscrew it and purchase a new one and some teflon tape for the threads and install into the threaded fitting at the pipe.

We have a Studor Terminal in an inside hallway closet in our home. Occasionally, when you walk by you can smell the sewer gases, the nice rotten egg smell of hydrogen sulfide. I thought these were a one way air vent system and prevented this sort of thing? Is it not functioning properly?...
