    Stench in the house
    HI

We had a lot of work done on our haouse last year and part of that was replacing the stench pipe. When this was replaced is was replaced with one that is capped off with a vent in the loft, apparently these vents are made specifically for this. The problem now is that we are experiencing smells throughout the house, sometimes the kitchen, sometimes the bathroom? I'm confused how even if this were worng, how this would make even the porch smell?

    Also, is this harmful?

    Many thanks

From what you tell us your plumber terminated a vent in the attic. He either left the vent open or capped it with a AAV,( Air Admittance Vent). It sounds like the device he capped it off with has failed. He should have ran the vent out the roof where it belongs. It's allowing sewer gas to enter your home. Sewer gas is a health hazard to your family and the methane content makes it explosive. Have this looked at at once. Let me know what you decide. Regards, Tom
