Speedball1 - looking for used black iron pipe in Sarasota
    Hello Speedball1,

I ran into your posts here on AskMe by Google searching "iron pipe Sarasota" and I wonder if you might know where I can buy, beg or steal 3" black iron or galvanized pipe near Sarasota, used or otherwise. I am looking for a foot or two of threaded 3" AND 2" iron pipe for setting up a flat belt driven Goulds centrifugal pump that I have restored. I collect and restore old hit and miss engines and I am looking to create an engine driven pump demonstration unit for show.

I tried to send an email, but the system said that I should post my question.

All I can suggest would be to call around to well digging companys. They use galvanized for casings, or did when I worked for Arrow Plumbing. I don't recall any galvanized or black iron pipes in our pipe racks. Some of the older plumbing shops might still have some left in stock. Also there's a junk yard on Myrtle you might try. I have some 2 and 3" galvanized nipples out in the garage that we brought down with us when we moved here 52 years ago but not in the length you wanted. Good luck, Tom

I'm sorry! I spoke from memory when I said I had 2 and 3 inch nipples out in my garage. When I went out and checked I found 1 1/2" nipples and one 3" nipple 4 inches long that you're welcome to if you want it. Regards, Tom

I'd sure appreciate having the 3" nipple. I will make it work. Do I email you or use the phone? I'm sure that we don't want phone numbers or email addresses here in the open.

You're most welcome. It was a pleasure meeting you and your wife. Your Fairbanks-Morse engines took me back to my boyhood growing up within earshot of the main factory. If I can ever be of assistance in the future don't hesitate to call on me. Regards, Tom
