Hi everyone, or at least everyone who's reading this. I'm not sure if this is a true plumbing issue or not, but it's involving pipes and vents and moving toilets etc, so I figure, why not.

Ok, so here's the scenario. I am opening a wall up so that I can move my toilet in order to make some more space in my bathroom. Upon opening up this wall, which ends up being the back of a closet in the adjoining room. So turns out that between the back closet wall and the finished wall in the bathroom there is a vent pipe, about 4 inches thick and made of Lead (or some other metal).

So this causes some trouble with the toilet fitting into this space, unless of course I can either reduce the pipe and/or move it back out of the way. I just wasn't sure if there were any regulations against this, does it have to be this metal pipe, or can a plastic pipe be used? The pipe currently comes up from the floor along about a 45° angle for about 10 feet or so, then elbows up and goes straight up out and through the roof.

If anyone knows if what I'm proposing to do is possible, I'd love to hear your feedback or advice, and thank everyone in advance for taking the time to read and respond.
