Shark Bite Shut Off Valve For Water Heater
Like them or not, question is: will a shark bite shutoff valve meet code in Wood County Ohio if installed on the supply line just prior to the water heater as opposed to the old gate valve that needs replaced.

I know I can buy and solder one on but do they (shark bite) meet code installed on the supply line (Wood County Ohio).

    Thanks In Advance

    Hi Mike

I don't have time to search out every code in every state and/or country, but I do know that sharkbite shutoffs are acceptable in most states nowadays and if they are to be used as a water heater shutoff AND the water heater is a gas water heater then the sharkbite shutoff must be a minimum of 18-24" away from the tank. Here, the sharkbite fittings have seals that could melt if they come too close to the vent/flu on the top of the water heater. Even if you have an electric water heater I think that the 18-24" rule still applies as any water heater can overheat and reach temperatures that can still cause problems for the shutoff seals.

If you need more info. just contact a local plumbing inspector and ask him...most are glad to discuss new updates to code!

    Good luck!
