Replacing traditional cast iron tub with fiberglass shower unit-HELP
My wife and I are growing older (Yeah, but I’m probably still older than you!);) and we are considering replacing one of the tubs in our two bath house with a step-in fiberglass shower unit. My wife broke her hip two years ago and she experienced major problems getting in and out of the tubs. Since we are only getting older, we decided to remodel with a step-in unit for any future mishaps or just old age. The problem we are running into is that all of the units we have found, so far, have the drain hole centered in the 60” unit, not in the standard location of a traditional tub. I built the house in 1980 and it is on a concrete slab and it would be VERY difficult to re-route the drain to accommodate the center drain. We owned a house in the early 70’s that had a shower such as we want, so we know that, at least, they were available at some point in time. My question is, does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes such a unit? We could go with a tile installation but the fiberglass unit would solve many problems associated with a conversion to tile. Thanks in advance.
