Removing Compression Straight Style Supply Valve
    Hello

My cold water is leaking from the bottom of the compression valve (where it is attached to the pipe). I want to remove it, but it looks like it is glued onto the copper pipe. How would I go about this. The Compression Fitting doesn't not have a nut on the bottom which is attached to the copper pipe. All the pictures that I have seen and nuts on the bottom and top. Should I just cut this off from the pipe or is there some type of solvent that would dissolve the glue (if that's what it is).

This doesn't sound like a compression fitting. Sounds like it was soldered on. (requires a blow torch) usually a full kit for this process (I believe called sweating) can be bought at home depot for about $20.

If this is the case, your best bet is to probably cut it off with a tube cutter just beyund the "glue" or solder. Then replace it.

I think your compression valve is likely a straight stop cock. Try tightening the nut just below the knob and stem. Make sure the knob has been opened all of the way until it stops.
