Recommendation Needed
Simple question: What is the QUIETEST toilet fill valve for a residential bottom fed toilet? I replaced an R&T valve with a Fluidmaster and the Fluidmaster is horribly loud and takes a long time to fill the tank. I'm only concerned with noise. Surely there is a better fill valve out there... Kohler, maybe? I need a make and model, please. Thanks! CS

Hi Crs619
I don't know if there really is a "QUIETEST" toilet fill valve. Korky actually makes a "korky quiet fill toilet fill valve", but I don't really think it much quieter than the fluidmaster, but I have only installed one of them so I can't really say here...it may be worth a try though!
You could also try choking the water supply down at the toilet shut off valve...may help reduce the noise a bit!
Have a good day!
Mark

My question is why would you want one? Back in the 80's I had a lady that wanted a toilet with a quiet flush, ( notice that CRS619 doesn't seem worried about flush noise) I installed a one piece Toto that made her happy. I still want to know why the fill bothers him and not the flush noise, Cheers, Tom

The flush itself is not as loud as the filling of the tank, which takes 90 seconds, and the bathroom is right next to a newborn babies room- hence, the need for a quieter fill valve. The Fluidmaster is a complete POS.The R&T I took out was leagues better pursuant to noise level... but it failed after several years. I have owned homes where the fill was almost completely unnoticeable. I have already choked the water supply- it helps a little bit, but not enough. The Korky unit your referenced is on the same level as the Fluidmaster and is a sales gimmick that does not perform from what I've read. My best bet will probably end up being the one I replaced: ½øË®·§-A12605J - ÏÃÃÅÈð¶ûÌØÎÀÔ¡¿Æ¼¼¹É·ÝÓÐÏÞ¹«Ë¾ I was hoping an American company could make something better than the Chinese. Thanks for the head up on the Toto... maybe this unit will do the trick, though I will probably just go with what I know: Amazon.com: TOTO TSU99A.X Universal Fill Valve: Home Improvement Cheers, CS

Thanks- I have seen these types made by NuFlush. I think I am going to give it a try, as the physics of how it works seems to make more sense than the older version with floats... this will work with the existing overflow tube? Do I need to adjust its height, or just leave it be? Thanks, Tom!

By "adjusting the overflow" do you mean setting the water level in the tank? If so every time you replace a ballcock you must make adjustments. As Mark mentioned sometimes cutting down the water at the angle will make the fill quieter. Good luck and let me know if it works for you. Tom

I just finished reading Michael Crichton's State of Fear. I think its one of the most important books I have ever read in my lifetime (and I'm an avid reader). I would strongly urge everyone to run out and get a copy (its in paperback or at your local library) and read it immediately.
