    Plumbing vent to roof
While trying to run a snake down the roof vent, the darn thing came completely out of the spindle and the snake fell down the vent. Now I have 14' of snake down the darn vent and can't see the free end. Is there some obvious tool I can find or rent that will allow me to fish the thing out?

This all started as step 3 of trying to get rid of a sewer smell in the shower. :o

Sorry for the trouble. Go down to your Rent All Store and rent a sink cleaning machine, (you don't need a big sewer one). Explain your problem and ask them for a retrival tip. All this is a spring auger with the tip sticking out to snag the lost cable and pull it back. Good luck and let me know how you make out. Tom

I live in Northern WI and have problems with my roof vent freezing and causing sewer gas to back up into my downstairs basement. Unclogging the roof vent [ 4 Answers ]

I need to remove all the gunk buildup, and was going to use a hose as well as a 50' snake. I am pretty handy, but if you could offer any advice or tips I am all ears. Other info 3 year old house, pvc piping, 1 1/2" inch pipes to the roof and a typical cleanout to the septic tank. Thanks!

Hello all. I had a question about the vent coming out of the roof. In my kitchen, I have a cathedral ceiling framed with 2 x 12 joists. I was planning on bringing a vent from behind my sink straight up through the roof. I have a 18" overhang, and this will place the vent close to the edge of...
