    P-trap Connection
    Hi - New bathroom construction, pvc dwv line for a pedestal sink. The stub out is not yet glued into the main line in the wall. What is the best option for connecting a chrome p-trap to the drain line? Thanks.

    Are you using 1 1/2 or 1 1/4 PVC for you drain? If it is 1 1/4 you sill stub out of the wall with a 1 1/4 glue to 1 1/4 compression adapter, leave this sticking out of the wall about 3/4 of an inch. This will make it where you can then use a 1 1/4 chrome or 1 1/4 tubular PVC for your trap.

    Use 1 1/2" drain adapter. Keep it tight. Very tight. When installing trap don't forget to install Deep Eschutcheon as well. See pics...

    Good question Duke!
    You will stub out 1 1/2" and prime and glue on a 1 1/2" compression fitting,(see image). This fittung will come with two gaskets. One 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" and the other 1 1/2" X 1 1/4". You will use the latter gasket.
    But wait! Why not trick out your installation with a chrome bottle trap,(see image) since it will be exposed? Good luck and thank you for rating my answer. Tom

    Hi all:

    Duker... If the drain fitting is sticking out of the wall at all I would recommend a STREET trap adapter (left picture)... not a regular trap adapter (right picture)... but in PVC... ;). These street fittings get you closer to the wall allowing you to use that bell-flange up tight to the wall. If the fitting is behind the wall then the regular trap adapter is right choice.

    Otherwise, they also make a New England Style PVC to chrome trap, but these are only found at a plumbing supply house. These do not have the compression gasket (trap adapter on horizontal) that the other types above do... this means less chance for leaks... ;)
