No hot water in shower after replacing valve cartridge
I know this is the same question asked by a previous customer, but this answer did not work for us. We have a shower-only single Moen faucet - château style, cartridge model #1225. Just finished replacing. Hot water comes out full force from pipe but doesn't come out at all once everything is in place. Any further suggestions?

Are you saying that once the cartridge was installed you had water but once the knob and plate was installed you had no water? If it's not that please explain. Back to you, Tom

The reason for fixing the shower was because the water pressure diminished the more the handle was rotated toward "hot" (to the left). On the hottest setting no water came out at all. After putting in a new replacement cartridge the same problem still existed. That's when we started looking online to see what answers we could find. We eventually found out that the valve has something called a "balancing spool", which is a threaded cylinder located just to the right of the replacement cartridge. It looks like an over-sized screw with a large slot. (We used an old wood chisel as a screwdriver to turn it). After working it gently and jiggling it back and forth we were able to remove it completely from the valve. This "balancing spool" is actually a cylinder inside a cylinder, and something had caused the inside cylinder to get stuck. We soaked it in alcohol for awhile and then tapped it gently on an old piece of wood until the inside cylinder was able to move freely. Now the hot water pressure works!!
